My Dad and AMSOIL

My father was an AMSOIL Dealer in the 1970s and 1980s, and that’s where I first learned about the product. He used it in his 1967 Cadillac Coupe DeVille and later in the 1973 Volkswagen Squareback that I first drove. He was always the mechanic on his own cars and also enjoyed rebuilding antique BMW motorcycles having grown up riding them in Germany.

When he first arrived in America he joined the Air Force where he became an mechanic on airplane engines and later for Pan American World Airways. He eventually became a flight instructor on the 727, 707 and finally 747 when Pan Am took possession of the first ones. We moved to California with the Cadillac and our first Squareback, a 1969, became his commuter car. He was also FAA licensed to inspect small aircraft. That kind of background made him a believer in synthetic oils long before they were common and became a Dealer in the mid-70s. I remember him commenting that he was able to increase the Cadillac up about 2-4 MPG and we’d watch some of the early AMSOIL racing on TV.

His experience and stories he told me about AMSOIL made the brand stick in my head until I had my own car.
