As I sit here working on a few projects at home, I was hoping for a little excitement from the college I graduated from, the University of Central Florida, right behind my house.
Yesterday, I saw people online asking about fighter jets flying around the area. I missed them while running errands, but learned they were practicing for the UCF Homecoming game taking place today. Wow, F-18s for a UCF game? When I went most people never heard of UCF and former high school classmates that went to FSU and Gainesville would ask me “what’s UCF, where is that?” Now they have military jets opening their games!
The Trees Got the View.
Naturally, I was looking forward to the flyover scheduled for 3:30 p.m., or as they military might say, 15:30!
With the nicer weather, I had my patio door open and could hear the game. Around 3:20, fireworks suddenly went off.
Interesting. Better get outside! I thought. Maybe they’d make a few passes before whatever kickoff festivities were scheduled.
I barely made it past my patio door when I heard the roar of the F/A-18 Super Hornets. I aimed my camera toward the sky, but all I could see were the trees behind the house.
The engines roared overhead. I waited, hoping to catch a glimpse between the branches…and then they were gone!
I headed out to the street and looked up, but it seemed they’d make just the one pass. Meanwhile, the official fireworks went off around the actual 3:30 mark, apparently marking the scheduled start of the game and now, almost an hour later, I can hear all the cheering and music.
But feel free to take a moment and enjoy my rather obscure ten seconds of an air show from my backyard in East Orlando. You won’t see the jets, but you’ll hear them!
Sorry, this one isn’t about oil. But AMSOIL was founded by a former fighter pilot, so I suppose we can make a connection after all!
