Time to Go Topless

2007 Chrysler Crossfire Limited Roadster

In 2014, I said goodbye to the SUV era and moved into a convertible, the Chrysler Crossfire Roadster. It’s a mystery car to some from the period when Mercedes owned Chrysler. Chrysler designed the body, but Mercedes built it in Germany on top of their SLK320 platform in both roadster and coupe variations, and most everything except the exterior carries Mercedes markings.

After I bought it, I ran very little AMSOIL in it at first because it came from the dealership completely overhauled and like new with warranty. By the first oil change, though, I was using AMSOIL along with a Mann filter until AMSOIL had an EAO filter available. Around 2018, after the dealer warranty had ended and service changes came due, I converted everything to AMSOIL. It still runs like new, even with around 60,000 miles added to the 51,000 it had when I bought it.

I don’t drop the top as much as I did when I first got it, but on business trips through rural areas I wish I had my car instead of a rental so I could enjoy the open air, sunshine, and scenery versus city driving back home. The car also appeared in several films I worked on.

I still own it and drive it today. For a while it was my daily driver and was to share duty with my Mustang when I had it back on the road, but now it shares that role with another van.

When I became more active in my AMSOIL business and started doing shows again, this was the only vehicle I had. I learned how to set up a small display and fit everything into the front seat and small trunk. People were often surprised at the end of shows when they saw me pull up next to my booth and load everything into such a small car. It did workhorse duty it was never designed for, and it did it well. These days, it’s mostly my fun car again, with the van handling the hauling. My goal is to clean it properly and maybe visit some car shows again as an entry.

In the multi-festival award winning short “Cassandra” (2016), my wife and I sell the house to get away from a ghost. My wife follows me in the Crossfire.

In the film “Men-a-Pause” (2019) I play one of the irresponsible me who figures it’s a good idea to pull my sons tooth with my car!
