Running a shuttle service in the mountains means putting serious mileage on vehicles. For Ron Brown, owner of Ron’s Appalachian Trail Shuttle in Georgia, dependable transportation is essential to his business and to the hikers who rely on him.
Brown’s shuttle vehicles travel hundreds of miles a day on mountain roads, back roads, and changing terrain. His experience offers a real-world example of how vehicle maintenance becomes especially important when a vehicle is also a business’s livelihood.
High Mileage, Less Time in the Garage
Brown’s 2019 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road had reached 642,000 miles. His 2000 4Runner Limited had accumulated another 572,000 miles.
Together, the two vehicles had passed one million miles. Brown described maintaining a regular oil-change routine, changing the oil at approximately 14,000-mile intervals in the newer 4Runner. Compared with his previous routine of changing oil about every week, the longer interval meant less time spent servicing vehicles and more time running his shuttle business.
The newer 4Runner was using AMSOIL Signature Series 0W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil and an AMSOIL EA15K49 Oil Filter at the time of the story.
Fuel Savings on the Road
Brown also reported fuel-economy improvements after using AMSOIL P.i. Performance Improver gasoline additive. He noticed an initial improvement of 2.6 miles per gallon, according to the AMSOIL feature.
For a business that covers so many miles, even a modest improvement in fuel economy can make a difference to operating costs. These figures are Brown’s reported experience, not a guarantee of the same results for every vehicle or driver.
