Comments from Me

Hello Everyone,

It’s been far too long since my last newsletter.  Most of my free time with “computer” related work has been getting my new Web Site done, learning new tricks, codes, layouts, etc.  It’s finally up, but this is probably the third or forth version after scratching each attempt before and starting over.  Now it’s here to stay, but I already see things I can do to make it better.  Isn’t that always the case?

Amsoil has also been experiencing a lot of growth.  In one of our monthly meetings earlier this year, it was mentioned that the months of February/March experienced a 72% increase in business over the same months last year in 2006.  They are upgrading their computers system again which should make online ordering even easier, and new warehouses are in the works as well as older ones needing to move to larger locations.  Here in Orlando the warehouse just moved a few years ago and they are already looking for a larger one to handle all the new products and volume.  They have about 5000 square feet currently and are looking to up that to 10-12,000.

As some of you also know, Amsoil actually buys their PAO base stock from Mobil Chemical.  Last year Amsoil bought more PAO base stock for their products than was purchased for Mobil 1.  This says a lot when Amsoil is buying, and apparently selling, more than Mobil’s own synthetic line is selling.  They may start from the same base, but people are recognizing that all the additives and development after that is makes a difference.

Since my last newsletter about a year ago, Amsoil has also partnered up with numerous other companies and added many new products.  Details will be mentioned below, but in a nutshell, we are now working with, and able to order products from Donaldson, Wix, Twin Air, Mother’s, Trico, and NGK.  Amsoil dropped the Bosch line and picked up Trico and NGK for the larger range of quality products these companies offer.  All of these companies produce excellent products and are welcome additions that only help to enhance the services I can provide.

I have a lot to catch many of you up on and this will probably be the largest newsletter you will get from me because of it.  I hope now to keep more up to date more often.  Don’t forget you can also visit my blog on MySpace located at http://www.myspace.com/technilube.

So without anymore rambling, let’s get into the real news:

News From Amsoil

Price Increases

Unfortunately I do have to pass on word that there will be price increases as of October 1st.  Amsoil first let us know this last month with the following comment:

“The ever-increasing costs of base stocks, additives and packaging have affected every lubricant company in the industry, forcing them to increase lubricant prices to compensate. Due to these ever-increasing prices for raw materials, AMSOIL is forced to implement a minimal price adjustment effective October 1. Even with a minimal price adjustment, AMSOIL synthetic lubricants remain the best and most cost-effective choice on the market, saving customers money through extended drain intervals, reduced wear and maintenance and increased fuel efficiency.”

Since My Newsletter Last Year:

Here are many of the products that have been released over the past year since my last newsletter:

Mothers® Polishes-Waxes-Cleaners

clip image002a September 2007 Amsoil/Technilube.com NewsletterDecember 2006 - Mother’s features three different lines depending on how serious you are and the type of shine you want.  One is designed more for the everyday user, another for those who wish to keep their vehicles looking like new, the last designed for the extreme gloss look that show car owners usually go for.  One very popular product is the Power Ball.  If you get any kind of automotive magazine, you have probably seen a Mother’s ad for one of these at one point.

These products have been designed by enthusiasts for enthusiast.  While some other brands are more mainstream because they go for saturating the market with their name, Mother’s has always catered more to the automotive enthusiast looking for the best product.  This same attitude is shared by Amsoil and the reason the two ended up working together.

Severe Gear 75W-110 Synthetic Gear Lube

clip image002 0002 September 2007 Amsoil/Technilube.com NewsletterFebruary 2007 – AMSOIL announced the addition of 75W-110 Severe Gear Synthetic Gear Lube to its strong line of AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic Gear Lubes.  AMSOIL Severe Gear Synthetic Gear Lubes feature an exclusive blend of high viscosity, shear stable synthetic base oils and an extra treatment of high-performance additives. They are engineered to protect gears better than conventional gear oils, resisting acid, carbon and varnish formation and oxidative breakdown.

The new viscosity gear lube grade that fills the gap between the 75W-90 and 75W-140 viscosity gear lubes that most people are accustomed to using.  Many used the 75W-140 to obtain extra film protection beyond what the 75W-90 viscosity grade offered for their differentials, but found that they sacrificed fuel economy by doing so. This new viscosity grade, 75W-110, offers a high temperature film protection beyond what a 75W-90 offers, without compromising fuel economy.  This new mid-range viscosity grade for gear lubes addresses performance, protection and fuel economy.

Because today’s vehicles have seen tremendous gains in both horsepower and towing limits, greater stress is placed on differentials and drivetrain components. In fact, horsepower has increased by as much as 93 percent in turbo diesel trucks, and vehicle towing limits have increased from 7,500 to 18,000 lbs in recent years.

For this reason, AMSOIL 75W-110 Severe Gear Synthetic Gear Lube is designed to provide superior protection for elevated operating temperatures without sacrificing fuel efficiency.  It is formulated for use with limited slip clutches and is ideal for turbo diesel pickup trucks, vehicles used for towing and hauling and other vehicles subject to severe service operating conditions, including heavy equipment, construction vehicles, emergency vehicles, street rods and 4×4 vehicles.

AMSOIL 75W-110 Severe Gear Synthetic Gear Lube is a premium grade lubricant specifically engineered for maximum performance in severe duty applications.  AMSOIL 75W-110 Severe Gear delivers unsurpassed fuel efficiency and cold temperature performance.

clip image002 September 2007 Amsoil/Technilube.com NewsletterNew PI Formulation Provides Unsurpassed Fuel Economy and Performance

moz screenshot 3 September 2007 Amsoil/Technilube.com Newslettermoz screenshot 4 September 2007 Amsoil/Technilube.com NewsletterApril 2007 – Today’s fuels vary in quality and additive treat levels from the refinery. Although a certain level of detergent additive is required by law to be formulated into gasoline, cost restrictions cause refineries to use low quality additives in the lowest additive concentration (LAC), a level insufficient to prevent deposit accumulation. Deposits accumulate on fuel injectors, intake valves and combustion chambers within just a few thousand miles, disrupting spray patterns, affecting electronic sensors and causing a multitude of problems. Fuel system deposits result in the following:

  • Lost fuel economy
  • Lost power and poor throttle response
  • Failed emission tests
  • Poor drivability – surging, hesitation, stalling, rough idle
  • Engine knocking (pinging) and rap
  • Difficult starts

The newly formulated AMSOIL PI Performance Improver is the most potent gasoline additive available today. As a concentrated detergent, it is unsurpassed in cleaning combustion chamber deposits, intake valve deposits and port fuel injector deposits, eliminating the need for expensive fuel injector cleaning procedures. It is ideal for use prior to emissions inspections, and it helps maintain peak engine efficiency, fuel economy, power and drivability in newer low mileage engines. In engines with accumulated deposits, testing showed AMSOIL PI provided the following clean-up benefits after only one tank of gasoline:

Improves fuel mileage an average of 2.3% and up to 5.7%

  • Reduced emissions
    • hydrocarbons (HC) up to 15%
    • carbon monoxide (CO) up to 26%
    • nitrous oxides (NOx) up to 17%
  • Restored power and performance
  • Reduced need for costly higher octane fuel
  • Reduced noise from carbon rap and pre-ignition
  • Better drivability
  • Smoother operation

The new PI formulation offers greater potency than the old formulation and delivers extra benefits, including increased fuel economy improvements, improved intake valve and combustion chamber cleaning and lower emissions. Because it is recommended every 4,000 miles, rather than with every tank of gas, the new PI formulation is also more convenient to use. Its new smaller neck makes it easier to pour into the tank, and because the flip top has been eliminated, leakage is minimized.

Performance Air Filters for Racing & Street Rod Applications

clip image002 0005 September 2007 Amsoil/Technilube.com Newsletter

April 2007 – AMSOIL announces the introduction a new racing air filter to the already strong line of Ea high performance filters utilizing nanofiber technology.  The new AMSOIL air filters are specially designed for racing and street rod enthusiasts who desire a combination of performance and protection in carbureted applications.  These custom air cleaner assemblies, which vary in size from 2″ to 6″ in height, are manufactured for use with carbureted engines that use a 14-inch round element air cleaner housing.

AMSOIL Performance Air Filters are designed to replace stock cellulose, oil-wetted gauze or foam filters.  AMSOIL Filters are composed of nanofiber media that have sub-micron diameters and small inter-fiber spaces, which results in more contaminate being captured on the surface of the media.  The nanofibers found in the AMSOIL Air Filters are less than one micron in diameter and because of their size, there are more pores per square inch (higher pore density), allowing for higher dirt-holding capacity and lower pressure drop when compared to traditional filter medias.  Thinner media fibers, like those in AMSOIL Performance Air Filters, produce more uniform pore size distribution, improving the filter’s overall ability to capture and retain particles.

The AMSOIL Performance Air Filter filtration system utilizing nanofiber media allows air to flow through both the side for traditional filtering and the lid for greater performance and superior efficiency.

Ea is the scientific designation for Absolute Efficiency.

Amsoil EaAB Crankcase Breather Filters

clip image002 0008 September 2007 Amsoil/Technilube.com Newsletter

EaAB Crankcase Breather Filters provide excellent oil vapor control, increased efficiency and superior engine performance in street rod and racing applications. EaAB Filters are a perfect complement to EaAR Filters, ensuring superior air filtration in high-performance and severe-service applications.

Why Are Crankcase Breathers Necessary?
Pressure builds in the engine crankcase due to vapor from hot engine oil and from exhaust gases that escape past the piston rings. A crankcase breather system is used to release this pressure. If the breather system becomes blocked, the crankcase pressure builds internally. As the pressure increases, the oil is pushed through the area offering the least resistance, such as the dipstick or a seal. Crankcase breather filters are employed to ensure the crankcase does not become blocked with foreign materials as pressurized gases escape.

AMSOIL EaAB Filters
AMSOIL EaAB Filters are compatible with engines, transmissions and oil tanks, but are mainly designed for installation on valve covers used in high-performance and racing applications. EaAB Filters clamp directly to rubber tubing or are pushed onto rubber grommets. The EaAB-1511, EaAB-1513 and EaAB-1514 feature a chrome shield for added protection from direct contact with dirt and grime, and all EaAB Filters feature a chrome ring with AMSOIL engraved into the top. The EaAB-1491 is a push-in filter and the others are all clamp-on designs.

Quality Construction
AMSOIL EaAB Filters are made with the same super high-quality synthetic nanofibers used in other Ea Filters. Their wire-backed pleats provide additional strength and filter longevity. The signature AMSOIL Ea blue media, along with the chrome detailing, make these filters an attractive fit.

Cleanable
AMSOIL EaAB Filters are cleanable, offering longer filter life. They are cleaned in the same manner as other Ea Air Filters: using either low-pressure shop air on the clean side or a vacuum on the dirty side.

Applications
AMSOIL EaAB Filters are available for any vehicle or piece of equipment that can accept breather elements. The breathers are designed for installation on engine valve covers and other breather tubes, but can also be used on transmissions and industrial equipment. See the product dimension chart below for appropriate filter.

What’s Coming Up

More is on the horizon for Amsoil.  Since the beginning of the year we have been told in meetings of some new products and literature that will continue to keep Amsoil on the forefront of technology.  Some of this includes:

  • Silicon Brake Fluid – something we have been asking for since we have nearly every other fluid.
  • New PI Performance Improver Fuel Additive for the Marine Market – from what I understand this will be based off of the old PI formula that turned out was being used for 2-Cycle Outboards. I’m sure it will be tweaked more for these specific applications.
  • clip image001 September 2007 Amsoil/Technilube.com NewsletterA Racing ONLY Oil – Something one of the Direct Jobbers got from one of the Corporate guys in passing conversation. No other information as to when yet.
  • An Oil for Street/Hot Rod Applications – Same source as the Racing Oil, but since Amsoil is sponsoring NSRA, I would think this won’t be in the too distant future.
  • Pre-Filters for Racing & Off Road Apps – The pre-filter is a mesh bag that fits over air filters to help protect against dirt and mud from collecting on an air filter, while not disrupting air flow a filter needs. A formal release announcement it scheduled for November.

Amsoil Racing & Relationships

Amsoil and Boyd Coddington

clip image002 0009 September 2007 Amsoil/Technilube.com Newsletter

Amsoil has teamed up with Boyd Coddington, legendary hot rod builder.  Originally he was to use Amsoil in a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere back in June that had been buried in Tulsa, Oklahoma since then.  It was to be documented on his show, American Hot Rod, and other programs but unfortunately when it was dug up, moisture had taken over the car and soon after it was considered a complete loss.

But the relationship is there and Boyd has built the the above Bonneville Racer to break a 200 MPH speed record at the Salt Flats that was driven by his wife. It takes place over three of his episodes on the Learning Channel, the second having aired this week.  George Douglas, one of the Direct Jobbers I work closely with was there for the actual race. I won’t give away what happened, but looks like there will be a more filming out there later this year.

World’s Fastest Cadillac Uses AMSOIL

Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop
The builders of last year’s head turning G-Force ‘Cuda was back at Bonneville with a new car. An editorial in Popular Hot Rodding called it, “The Greatest Street Machine Ever Built.” Despite the hyperbole, these guys know how to make cars. And for maximum G’s on the Flats this year they will look once again to AMSOIL.

clip image004 0000 September 2007 Amsoil/Technilube.com NewsletterIn August everyone knew their Cadillac XLR would be fast, but you never know how fast till you really put it out there. With Gramie Bartles at the wheel, “The Worlds Fastest Cadillac” set a record of 222 mph.

This was actually a huge accomplishment for this new car that had just been completed within a couple days before Speed Week. The project was initiated in March with the build being completed right at the wire. According to the Johnsons, “Going to Bonneville without any testing and tuning before we got there, even without setting this kind of a record, is an achievement in itself.”

Bartles built the chassis and worked closely with the Johnsons on the build to insure the vehicle was up to snuff with regard to the the rules and regulations for S.C.T.A. Alan Johnson from California was the builder of the Northstar engine for the XLR. Owner of the XLR, Bob Johnson, looks forward setting more records with the XLR in the coming months.

All such projects involve many team members. In addition to the many other sponsors who helped with support, Bob indicated his gratitude to AMSOIL for the great products that have given his cars the extra oomph and protection he counts on.

Diesel Passenger Vehicles Making a Comeback

Over the years, Americans and Europeans have been worlds apart when it comes to diesel vehicles. Diesel passenger vehicles have been popular in Europe for years, and they become increasingly more popular each year. In fact, according to a survey performed by Eurocarprice.com and Pricewaterhouse Coopers, diesel car sales in Europe are on pace to exceed gasoline car sales in 2006. Even in the United Kingdom, which has the highest diesel fuel prices in Europe, gasoline-fueled car sales dropped 11 percent last year while diesel-fueled car sales increased by more than 7 percent.

In America, diesel passenger vehicles have traditionally been a tough sell, with many Americans harboring negative impressions of diesel vehicles as being noisy, polluting and foul-smelling. However, industry experts predict a dramatic comeback for diesel passenger vehicles in America. According to TechnoMetrica, diesel vehicles may eventually become as common in the United States as they are in Europe, and J.D. Power and Associates projects diesel sales to nearly triple in the United States over the next decade, accounting for more than 10 percent of U.S. vehicle sales by 2015.

Diesel technology has come a long way since the 1970s, and stringent new federal diesel emissions requirements take effect in 2007. As the 2006 model year expires, most of the year’s diesel vehicle models will be discontinued, giving way to a new generation of diesel engines designed to not only meet stringent federal clean air requirements, but also be as quiet and odor-free as gasoline engines, increase fuel economy by 25 to 40 percent and provide enough torque to satisfy American drivers.

A significant breakthrough in this new era of clean diesel technology was this year’s introduction of Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel. Sulfur is a key element to particulate formation, and ULSD eliminates 97 percent of pollution causing sulfur. While present diesel passenger vehicles can be sold in all states except California, New York, Vermont, Massachusetts and New Jersey, automakers plan to take advantage of new Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel and advances in diesel technology to create diesel engines that meet the pollution requirements in all 50 states.

Automakers are developing different pollution-reducing technologies for future diesel passenger vehicle models. For example, DaimlerChrysler and General Motors plan to introduce engines that inject urea into the cylinders during combustion. Honda, on the other hand, recently announced the development of a new catalytic converter that significantly reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx).

What are the differences between gasoline and diesel engines?

A gasoline engine compresses a mixture of gasoline and air, which is ignited with a spark from a spark plug, while a diesel engine creates heat by compressing air only. The fuel is injected into the compressed air, where the heat ignites it.

Diesel engines are more efficient than gasoline engines because their compression ratios are higher. Diesel engines compress at ratios between 14:1 and 25:1, while gasoline engines compress at ratios between 8:1 and 12:1.

Diesel fuel is more efficient than gasoline due to its higher energy density. One gallon of diesel fuel contains approximately 147,000 BTU, while one gallon of gasoline contains about 125,000 BTU.

Official Mustang Eyewear

clip image002 0001a September 2007 Amsoil/Technilube.com NewsletterAs some of you are aware now, I started selling Mustang Eyewear Sunglasses earlier this summer. I ran into the owner of the company at the Super StangFest and we started talking. Since I have a Mustang and work a booth at many of these shows, I thought that this would be a great branch off on a new products. So far they have gotten attention from fellow “Stangers” and I expect them to be really popular as Christmas rolls around and people start buying gifts for their favorite Mustang Fan.

clip image002 0002a September 2007 Amsoil/Technilube.com NewsletterI have made a page on my Technilube.com Web Site featuring them for those that might be interested. There are two different lines which come in many of the popular Mustang colors. The include a case, and the Eliminator Series also has the option of a retainer. They are Official Ford Mustang Products, so no worries about them being some knock offs. The owner explained to me that he has them made with the same quality materials as other popular name brands such as Oakly, but if you’ll notice, the prices for these is much less. He also is the owner and founder of two other popular brands, Dive Shades, a line of Diving Sunglasses, and Corvette Eyewear, which is carried by many popular Corvette stores and catalogs. Now us Mustang owners have a line we can call ours as well. For more information, take a look on my Web Site. The URl I have linked to it is www.officialmustangeyewear.com.

What This Means to You

As you can see, a lot has happened to Amsoil over the past year.  Whether you first requested Amsoil Information for you personal use, wanted to use it in your company vehicles, sell it in your shop or store, or were considering the Amsoil Business Opportunity, now is a great time to get involved.

The Amsoil name is getting more widely known and receiving more exposure than ever before. Besides the Television exposure mentioned above, Amsoil has been featured in several magazine articles this year, in particular the Bypass Oil Filter System.  Some of these magazines include JP Magazine, Peterson’s 4-Wheel & Off-Road, Street Rodder, and Diesel Builder. If you are looking to carry it in your shop and haven’t had people ask for it yet, then it’s only a matter of time, and in many cases once they know it’s there, they start buying and sales increase through word of mouth as other learn you now have it.

If you live in an area where Amsoil is hard to find, wouldn’t it make sense to become a Preferred Customer or even a Dealer where you can buy direct and sell it to others. You might have a wide open market just waiting to find out that you can sell it them.

If you have equipment you care for and must maintain, keep your costs down by putting Amsoil products into them. This is less downtime for you using conventional drain intervals, and in the long run will make that equipment last longer but letting it operate more efficiently.

As usual, if anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me.
