The 3M “Elbow Grease Economics” study of 1,835 American car owners found that they are placing a higher priority on vehicle maintenance than in the past. The report showed that:
- 30% of those surveyed found it a challenge to keep their vehicles running without some sort of high cost repair at a shop or doing it themselves.
- 22% commented that they wanted to try and improve on their current MPG.
- 25% said that they pay attention even more now to maintaining their vehicles than they did just two years ago and 18% of owners between the age of 18 and 25 also paid more attention to their maintenance than two years ago.
- Women weren’t left out of the study: 26% commented that they considered their vehicle to be one of the biggest investments with 32% saying that they now took better care of their vehicles than in the past, stating they couldn’t afford to purchase a new one.
